This film revolves around Print Ritter (Robert Duvall) who dreams of buying a raunch. He has to transport 500 mustangs from Oregon to Wyoming and sell them. He asks his nephew Tom Harte (Thomas Haden Church) to join him as well. On their way, however they stumble across a man who is taking five chinese women to a mining town for prostitution. They decide to rescue them and so they do. The rest of the story is about their struggles getting the girls to safety while at the same time delivering the mustangs. Needless to say they have a lot of problems to handle including thieves, rough weather, the mustangs and of course, the men trying to get the girls back.
