When Dale’s father (Richard Jenkins) meets Brennan’s mother (Mary Steenburgen), it’s love at first sight. The two decide to marry. However, their grown up sons aren’t so happy with the new family. Dale (John C. Riley) and Brennan (Will Ferrell) are forty year-old losers who are still supported by their successful parents. The two hate each other on sight and start an immediate rivalry. Soon, the two discover a common enemy, Brennan’s brother (Jason Davis). Just as Dale and Brennan learn to be best friends and celebrate everything they have in common, their parents realize the marriage was a mistake. Their parents’ divorce forces the boys to grow up. But, are grow ups who they really want to be?
