How to do make-ups:

Make-ups may be requested this year both via the ski school phone and by email <thinksnow@powderpigs.com>.  Remember to leave the following information for a successful and satisfying make up for all concerned:

1.         We need the following information to schedule a make-up:

a.     Name & age of Powderpig wishing to do the make up.

b.    Regular day of instruction.

c.     Name of regular instructor.

d.    Any special needs your child might have.

e.     Day you would like to do the make-up.

f.     Your name & telephone number.

Note:  We will call you back only if we need more information.  However, if you request the make-up by email, we can let you know that we have received your message by “reply email’.

2    Make-ups are assigned on a space available and appropriate class available, as well as a  first come, first served basis.  We will not crowd a class for a make-up thus assuring you that your child’s class will not be crowded for another child’s make-up.  This makes knowing who is going to be absent so important in the Powderpig scheme of things.  Unfortunately, there is always a slim chance that we will not have a class for your child’s make- up.  This has actually happened maybe 15-20 times in the last 36 years, but the dilemma is that we won’t know if that is going to be the case until just before the classes go out.  Unless all those that are going to be absent have diligently called to let us know they will not be joining us that week. Big thank yous to all of you who do call - and that is many!

3.      First year preschoolers can do make-ups AFTER the break.

4.     All weekend make-up requests must be in by 5:00 on the Wednesday before the weekend involved.   The earlier the call, the better.  However, if you call in your make up request weeks in advance (that would be lovely!) please call again before Wednesday evening at 5PM to confirm that you will indeed be coming. (that really helps)  All too often people forget they have requested a make-up weeks before and then, of course don’t show up.

5.      Fitting make-ups into classes is as complex and important a job as assigning a child to their regular class.  We take a great deal of pleasure in making this make-up program available so each Powderpig has as many of their lessons as possible.  When we do it well, both the child who is doing the make-up and the children in the host class have a good experience.  Putting the make-up program together each week is both a time and labor-intensive exercise, and not one that can be hurried.  For this reason we schedule only make-up requests that come in before 5 PM Wednesday before the weekend of the makeup (for weekend make-ups) or Monday at 5 PM for midweek student’s make-ups (during the week).

6.     Midweek make-ups are only for midweek students and can be arranged through the office or directly through Townley, our midweek director. The midweek program is just not large enough to absorb weekend student make-ups.  This applies even to old midweek “alums”.  Please have your requests in no later than Monday at 5PM the week of the requested make-up.

7.      Make-ups can be done before a scheduled absence.

8.      If you are not able to come for a make-up, please call or email and let us know as soon as you know - up to and including the last minute.

9.      If you call to cancel a make-up before the lesson takes place, then you may reschedule the make-up at another time if you like.
