GETTING SIGNED UP FOR 2009!

Very early in the morning, April 30!

Notice you still can't see the top of the practice chair

Hi Powderpigs,

It is really hard to believe that back in December we were anxiously waiting for snow when it is still snowing enthusiastically up here at the very end of April.  Quite a number of Powderpigs continue to come up to play in the snow - skiing, riding and even snow shoeing  on the weekends.

                                          Sunday, April 27 -

Carson and her friend resting after their very first snow shoe hike!

With all this new snow and both Alpental and Summit Central still open on the weekends, it is even harder to believe that it is  already  time to think about getting signed up for next year - but it is!  So, once again, here  are the bare bones for getting your Powderpig(s) signed up for the 2009 season.   We will post the rest of the details in the brochure and on "Latest News" as the information comes in.

If you are old Powderpigs, you already know the drill and a quick look through of the first 7 pages of the Powderpig Brochure , when it is posted,  should bring you up to speed.

If you are a new Powderpig family, it is VERY important  you read through the brochure carefully when it is posted  and come to one of the Parent Meetings for 1st year Powderpig parents held in December - that way you will know what you are actually getting into and how and why we do things the way we do.  NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU HAVE HEARD ABOUT POWDERPIGS FROM FRIENDS OR FAMILY, these two steps are crucial to you and your child having a good Powderpig experience!

We will be updating the "Powderpig News" on <powderpigs.com>  soon and throughout the year - as news happens - from us, from the Area and about nifty things we hear about for kids to do during the spring and summer.    If your Powderpigs are doing things you think other Powderpigs would enjoy hearing about or you discover any unique activities you think other Powderpigs might enjoy, let us know!  And, if you have any specific questions or spot anything essential that we have left out - please email us (link at bottom of page).

To enroll your child in Powderpigs at this time:

Fill out and send in PAGE 1 of the appropriate application with the $275 deposit/app or payment in full (see below) to:

POWDERPIGS  PO BOX 916  PRESTON WA   98050

The Application comes in 2 flavors:

       SKI & SNOWBOARD

AND IS 3 PAGES LONG!  However,

We only need & want PAGE 1, the registration page, at this time.

BECAUSE THE INFORMATION ON PAGES 2 & 3 MUST BE CURRENT IN ORDER TO BE USEFUL DURING LESSONS, WE ASK THAT YOU FILL OUT & SEND IN THE LAST TWO PAGES OF THE APP BY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15.  In order to assure the information on these pages is timely, we wait until September to post them on <powderpigs.com>.  REMEMBER - in order to place your child in a class, we must have pages 2 & 3. Why Oct. 15?  Because the information will be fresh enough to be useful and we will still have enough time to read through and digest the information you give us and then use it to place each student in a class that will work well for them.  Thanks for your help with this important step of the registration process!

Based on some pretty exciting experiences this last year - we will be keeping extra careful track of enrollment this time 'round - and when a program is full,  WE WILL CLOSE REGISTRATION for that program.  No matter who it is that ends up hearing the dreary news  "there is no more room".  Old timers be forewarned!

If you are thinking of enrolling a 3 year old in the program, please contact us by Email before sending in their application.

This year we rediscovered how very important it is for new Powderpig parents to come to the "Indoctrination Clinics"/ Parent Meetings for new Powderpig families in early December.  We will post the dates for those meetings  as soon as we can nail down the dates.  You only need to come to one of the meetings.

At this time of year most of the Powderpig staff have gone back to their normal lives and Nancy is out of the office a good deal of the time,  so if you try to contact us and don't get an immediate answer, it is probably because Nancy, Lily and her camera are, once again, out somewhere taking pictures of wildflowers in the mountains - or  will be  as soon as the snow finally melts!  Right now, the pictures are still of snow flakes!

NEW EMAIL ADDRESS?  LET US KNOW, PLEASE!

If you change you email address, or any of your contact information, would you please put us on your notification list?  Email addresses get changed frequently enough so that our email address list is not very accurate from one end of the season to the other - let along from one season to another without your help.  Thanks!

IN 2009 - THE NEWS -

The 9 week program worked beautifully - so we will keep it!

Powderpig Parkas - We will continue with the wonderful O'Neil parkas  again this year - and this time,  in Powderpig red! We are conspiring with head designer and Powderpig mom Kathleen Mc Vey about a small pocket on the arm for season passes.   That will make it a whole lot easier to remember a season pass - AND Area personnel will not be asking our Powderpigs to unzip their parkas to show their season passes on chilly, snowy, blowy days.

The new Silver Fir Chair is still be in the works but with the snow pack still at an amazing "unusually good" winter  high here at the end of April (and it is snowing hard again as we chat), we may have to wait a year for that to happen.  In order to put in new towers and clear runs, the snow has got to have melted.  Not something that is going to happen any time soon, if things continue as they have been doing all during the month of April.

Our new Area Management, has turned out to be great!  Customer service at all levels has blossomed and those who work for the Area seem to be smiling a lot.  Some of the old problems will no doubt continue to plague us  (like our parking lot on Saturday and Sunday mornings when you arrive after 10 AM), but many of the things that have plagued us all, have dwindled nicely.  We are looking forward to another good year with Boyne.

We are ALWAYS looking for more good instructors - to replace those fine young people who go off to college or to the rest of their lives - and we have found that Powderpig parents make wonderful instructors!  There are some concrete "bennies" that go with teaching - like the Instructor Pass and the Instructor Discount on your Powderpig's tuition - among others.   If  you know of someone who is particularly good with kids and who you think would enjoy teaching kids to ski or snowboard OR if this sounds like it might interest you,  just email Nancy  (see link at bottom of this page).

Clinic group during this year's On Snow Clinics - after the snow finally arrived!

Did you know that this year's very successful Level I group

was almost all Powderpig parents & grown up Powderpigs?

And now, a whole new group of Powderpig parents have indicated an interest in becoming Powderpig instructors next year .  If you are one of them, would you please email Nancy  (again, for some of you) and let her know?   That way we can let you know when instructor activities are coming up and get information to you about instructor training.

There are other ways for interested parents to participate - we need volunteers to help with chilly children who need to come in and take a break, ticket sellers,  a possible position as "Karl" at the bottom of the chair may be available and other jobs necessary to making the Powderpig experience a good one for all involved.  We are in the process of making a more detailed list which we will post later on.  If any of this sounds like it might be of interest - email us!

Speaking of. . . Who was that wonderful Powderpig parent who took our very broken shovel home (my favorite shovel - you have favorites when you shovel as much snow as I do each year)  and put it back together so it balanced as beautifully as it ever did???  I never got the chance to say Thank you!  The shovel and I are still hanging out on a regular basis because it is still snowing so much.

Another "yell for help" is for "Loaners" - ski sox (all kids sizes), long johns, fleece, mittens, goggles, bibs, T-necks - anything that can get wet  (one way or another) or be left at home by mistake!  So if you have outgrown treasures that are still in good condition and which you would be willing to share - there are some Powderpigs who will be very grateful for your generosity next year!  Just bring them to "command central" where they will be welcomed with real enthusiasm.
